Biography

Alexandra is an Irish Craftsperson from the West of Ireland, currently living in Surrey, England. She is a graduate from London College of Fashion (University of the Arts London ) with a BA in Creative Direction for Fashion, and has a Distinction in Fashion Design from Galway Technical Institute.

Alexandra was nominated as a finalist for Student Designer of the Year in The Irish Fashion Innovation Awards in 2011.  After taking a creative break after University, Alexandra slowly began to create art again back in 2017.

It was in July 2024 that she unexpectedly came across the traditional Irish craft of Irish Crochet Lace.  She immediately fell in love with the rich history and intricacy of the craft and began to teach herself by working through a 112 year old book called "Priscilla Irish Crochet Book No1".  Not long after starting, she discovered that her Great-Grandmother had also made Irish Crochet Lace and taught herself.

The meditative, repetitive act of making Irish Crochet Lace, using only a simple fine hook and one colour thread, allows her to access her inner landscape and quiet hope for simplicity and peacefulness.

In 2025, Alexandra intends to create her first collection of original Irish Crochet Lace work inspired by drawings she first made in 2017.
